■DESCRIPTION■

"Like a noren fluttering in the breeze outside a shop, this piece quietly accompanies you in your daily life."

An original tenugui produced by "Shī-cocorozashi," a select shop in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture.

Taking the noren hanging at the entrance of a black, single-story house as my inspiration, I captured its essence on a single piece of fabric.

The noren features a design consisting of the character “志”—the shop’s name—written in square characters in a continuous pattern.

The character “志” is not merely the name of the store.

It signifies goals, willpower, the objectives we envision in our hearts, and the determination to achieve them, while also expressing a heart that cherishes others—such as goodwill and compassion.

By wearing this noren, we hope to engrave the spirit of that “aspiration” in our hearts and foster positive relationships and connections with our customers and colleagues.

And within that sentiment lies the store’s “vision”—a desire to be a presence that stands by each and every customer.

Through the noren—the face of our shop—we hope that our “aspiration” and the bonds between people will continue to grow.

This piece was crafted by KATAZOME, a workshop in Gujo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture.

Each piece is carefully dyed using “Ise Katagami,” a traditional craft with a history of over 500 years, and “Chusen,” a dyeing technique that has been passed down for over 120 years.

The soft color gradients and subtle variations unique to chusen dyeing are the charm of handcrafted work that machines cannot replicate.

Because the dye penetrates all the way to the core of the fabric, the finish is beautiful on both the front and back.

The fabric is 100% cotton with a soft, comfortable feel against the skin.

The edges feature a traditional raw-edge finish that develops a richer patina the more you use it, allowing it to blend naturally into your daily life.

We have infused this single tenugui with the traditions and craftsmanship passed down in the regions of Mie and Gifu.
